The St Patrick’s Foundation recently launched an online campaign to raise funds to support the skills-training initiatives of the Foundation. The campaign, titled It Takes 75 to Keep Hope Alive, is being powered by the isupportjamaica.com website of The Jamaica National Group.

 

Cosmetology students benefit from mission trip

The administration and students of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Ontario, Canada, have been making an impact on communities in Jamaica. A visit to the St Patrick’s Foundation in Seaview Gardens was one of the most mutually beneficial stops the group made on their trip. “This is a part of our mission trip for school, but we also come to experience the culture of Jamaica, and we love it here,” said Chloe Clifford, a student visiting from the school. As part of the visit to the St Patrick’s Foundation, the students paid to have their hair groomed by the cosmetology trainees at the institution. This offers both practice for the trainees and a service that the Canadians enjoy for a donation to the training programme.

Endometriosis in Jamaica: Call for greater public awareness, support

There’s a growing call by women with endometriosis in Jamaica for greater awareness of the disease in this country. Endometriosis is a chronic disease in which tissue normally found in the lining of the uterus grows in other places. This often causes pelvic pain and heavy bleeding. According to the World Health Organization, endometriosis affects 10% of women and girls globally.

 

US Embassy continues missions to empower J’can women – US$100,000 split up among five local projects

Serious about empowering women, the United States (US) Embassy in Kingston, last Wednesday, handed over US$20,000 each to five innovative non-governmental organisations whose activities centre around improving the lives of Jamaican women and girls. Through its Women’s History Month Grant Pitch Competition 2019, held at The University of the West Indies’ regional headquarters in St Andrew, the embassy provided a platform for 10 women’s groups to pitch ideas in areas such as education, health, security, business, and agriculture, which coincided with the theme, ‘Innovative Women: Promoting Resilience and Development’.
